If you have been in the workforce for a number of years I expect you have experienced Career Jumps, Career Bumps, Career Ceilings and Career Opportunities. You might not have recognized them as such at the time but, nonetheless, you navigated through them. As Jon states in the book,
Do you have a Career Savings Account?
In Jon Acuff’s latest work of heart called Do Over he explains just what each phase includes and how they all work together to help you build your Career Savings Account. That might be a new term for you but, after reading Do Over you will understand exactly what it is and how you can contribute to yours and make it grow and how doing so will help your career grow.
Jon Doesn’t Disappoint
If you have read any of Jon Acuff’s previous books or his blog you know he has a talent for using humor to illustrate his subject. He doesn’t disappoint in Do Over. If you are like most people you learn more when a humorous anecdote or phrase is used to describe a subject. If that describes you, it might just be time for you and Do Over to meet and spend a few hours together.
“This book is about intentionally building a career using the four investments every extraordinary career has in common.”
“At the heart of this book is the belief that work doesn’t have to be miserable. We can rescue Monday and do meaningful work if we build meaningful Career Savings Accounts.”
What Is A Career Savings Account?
Like any savings account there are investment vehicles that are components of Career Savings Accounts. The four investments discussed in Do Over are relationships, skills, character and hustle.
“With these four investments…a Career Savings Account will help you rescue, reinvent and reenergize your work.
That’s why this book will help you do two things: 1. Build a Career Savings Account worth billions. 2. Spend it on the Career Do Over you’v always wanted.”
That is the promise Jon makes and he delivers on that promise. Well, the billions part might be a stretch for some.
If you think you are too old for a Do Over…
All you need is a Career Savings Account.
Is it time to start your Do Over?
And now we’ve come to the end of my little review. I have barely scratched the surface of the valuable information inside of Do Over. My hope is I have given you enough to make you curious and make you realize you can learn something that will benefit you in your career, whatever that is, and you will be entertained along the way.
Some May Just Need to Do!
Do Over is the title of the book, which implies you have already done something. However,
If you are just starting your career you can take what you learn in this book and just Do, since you don’t have anything to Do Over yet. You will be miles ahead of those who don’t understand Career Savings Accounts and how to create, invest and build one. This is not to say you may not need a Do Over or multiple Do Overs during your career but you will have a head start on most.
If you know someone graduating from college this would be a great and probably unique gift.
Books Are All Different
Books are like people in one sense. They are all different. If I use my time and my blog to post a review you can be assured I have read the book and believe there is something inside that will either entertain, inform or benefit you, or will do all three. I think this one will do all three.
It IS Your Decision
Now is the time for you to decide if you will invest a few dollars and a few hours that could return millions over your career OR if you will just keep doing what you’ve been doing and hope for the best.
I believe this quote from Charlie Tremendous Jones is true. “You will be the same person in five years as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read.” What are you reading?
“It’s time to change the way we look at our careers. It’s time to chase the dreams we’ve been running from. It’s time to do work we care about.
“That’s the sad truth about decisions: not making one is often the biggest decision you can make.”
What will you decide?
I recommend you get your copy of Do Over and start investing in your Career Savings Account today!
Until next time…
