Time for choosing…again

On November 8th the United States of America will once again choose its next President. Some have made this decision more complex than it really needs to be. I cannot and will not try to tell anyone who to vote for. I wouldn’t expect you to listen or keep reading if I did. I can, however, share some of my thoughts on the election and try to simplify the choice we will be making on Election Day.

Since I published this post I have read and seen a few more articles from others that shared the same theme but expressed it much better or more detailed than I did so I have included links to those at the end of this post. Continue reading Time for choosing…again

Open Letter to Primary Voters

I have had several folks ask me both in person and on social media if a vote for the candidate I support for President would be a wasted vote as many in the media and so-called “expert” pundits would like folks to believe. Have you ever noticed many of these pundits are from failed campaigns, experienced in losing? Some might have had success once but their predictions since that one time have been wrong much more often than right.

Do you trust your vote with what they are telling you? I don’t. Continue reading Open Letter to Primary Voters

My Vote Matters

If you are following the news this political season at all you have seen many instances of someone telling voters, “Vote for me if you want your vote to count. If you vote for (insert your candidate here) your vote will be wasted because (insert your candidate here) cannot win.” That is just one of the many lies you will hear politicians playing the politics as usual game, using lies and half-truths and deception to get your vote.

I am not buying what they are trying to sell.

Whether you let the establishment of either major party or the news media (all news media) tell you who can win and therefore who you should or should not vote for is your choice. I hope you don’t fall for the lies they are telling either.

If anyone reads this and does decide to take their vote seriously, do their own research and vote for the candidate that most closely matches their values and beliefs then it will have been well worth my time.

The primaries are where we get to express our opinion by voting for the candidate of our choice. Until the votes are cast it is all just a lot of hot air (other words or phrases work well here too). Voters have the best chance to make changes during the primaries as there are more choices making it more likely you can find one to support enthusiastically and vote FOR instead of voting AGAINST or SETTLING for the lesser of two evils in the general election.

I have written before

I have written before about why Independents Do Not Decide Elections and why maybe you should not vote in Maybe You Shouldn’t VoteI hope you are not a robot voter, low-information voter or single social issue voter as described in these previous posts. I hope if you do vote you will make yourself an educated and informed voter before you head to your polling place.

Fish lures are often shiny objects and when the fish take the bait it doesn’t end well for them.

Vote for the candidate that has the character, integrity (See Integrity Matters), experience (See Experience Matters), judgement and plans for the problems, issues and opportunities facing America in the years ahead, such as appointing Supreme Court Justices.

It is time to support the candidate you can really support and you would like to see leading our country. My vote counts regardless of the pundits and politicians telling me it doesn’t unless I vote for “their” candidate.

If your first choice candidate is no longer in the race I welcome and encourage you to keep reading and consider joining We The People supporting Dr. Ben Carson. We would love to have you!

If your candidate is still in the race and you are open to learning and new ideas that might surprise you, please keep reading.

I don’t presume my writing is persuasive enough to make you change your mind. However, if you do read the ideas and plans Dr. Carson has developed some of those might very well make you come to a new decision based on new information. So read at your own risk.

Dr. Ben Carson is my choice

I have done my research and Dr. Ben Carson is my choice. He is the first candidate I have been really excited about supporting this early in the process since Ronald Reagan. I will support him regardless of all the pundits ignoring him, telling him it can’t be done, other candidates lying to steal his votes in Iowa and now in South Carolina, and my vote is wasted if I vote for him because he “cannot win.” He has my support because I think he is the only candidate who has a realistic chance to bring unity to America again and is the only one willing to look at the problems America faces without the overriding concern of how fixing the problem will affect his re-election.

He IS the alternative to the status quo of politics as usual in America. He IS NOT a politician and has no plans to become one.

Are you tired of politics as usual?

If you are tired of politicians, both Republican and Democrats just “kicking the can down the road” past the next election instead of making the tough decisions needed to solve the problems facing America you should take a closer look at Dr. Ben Carson.

If you want the status quo of politics as usual to continue vote for a politician. If you are tired of politics as usual you do have an alternative this year and that alternative is Dr. Ben Carson. He is the conservative that can be trusted and will be accountable to We The People, and that is all of us, Republicans, Democrats, Tea Party, Socialists, Libertarians and Independents, and any others I might have missed. He will be beholden to no special interests or large donors as most others will be if they are elected. Dr. Carson stated this well in his closing remarks in the last debate. Watch at the link below.

Ben Carson Closing Statement – GOP Debate Feb. 13, 2016

I hope America can look back on this point in history one day and say “I am glad we did” instead of “I wish we had.”

My vote matters and I will be saying I am glad I did. I invite you to join me. In case my point has been missed,

YOUR vote matters too!

Use it wisely.

Kanye, Ben, Me and You

Kanye West

You are about to read two words I never thought would ever appear in anything I ever wrote or signed my name to – Kanye West. I am not a Kanye West fan and don’t expect I ever will be. I don’t like the rap genre or the explicit language that requires the EXPLICIT Warning label. I will not buy anything with that warning. See Adult Language if you want to see my perspective on that.

There is nothing I know about Kanye West as of this writing that would make me a fan or buy anything he produces or creates or vote for him for President in 2020 if he really does run. If Kanye West is named as part of it, I normally change the channel. That has not changed. I have lived long enough to never say never but, so far, nothing resonates with me.

That recently changed (sort of)

Recently, I saw a news teaser about who Kanye West was “supporting” for President in 2016. I didn’t really care (see above if confused) but decided to let the show run because I did have a hunch of who it might be. As it turns out I don’t believe Kanye has endorsed Dr. Ben Carson for President but he has had some good things to say about him as in the comment below,

“As soon as I heard [Ben] Carson speak, I tried for three weeks to get on the phone with him. I was like this is the most brilliant guy,” Kanye said in his interview with Vanity Fair. You can read more about this here

Dr. Ben Carson

I have been an admirer of Dr. Ben Carson ever since I saw his Prayer Breakfast Speech from February 7, 2013. He spoke truth to power in a way not often seen in the politically correct world we live in today. That took courage and conviction. If you have not seen that speech it is worth your time to go to the link below and watch it. No EXPLICIT warning is necessary but a Common Sense warning might be appropriate. Watch it with your entire family.

Dr. Benjamin Carson’s Amazing Speech at the National Prayer Breakfast with Obama Present

After seeing this speech I was curious to know more about this man so I did a little research. I have read America The Beautiful, One Vote, Make Your Voice HeardOne Nation: What We Can All Do to Save America’s Future, watched Gifted Hands, the 2009 movie about his life starring Cuba Gooding Jr., and am looking forward to his new book A More Perfect Union: What We the People Can Do to Reclaim Our Constitutional Liberties, due to release on October 6th.

Before it was cool

My research has only increased my admiration of Dr. Carson. I knew if he did decide to run for office I would support him. I just wasn’t sure if I would get that opportunity.  I knew it was a long shot but held out hope he would decide to run for office. If you have been paying attention at all you are aware he did make that decision and is doing very well. What he has done and said so far does resonate with me and I don’t expect that to change. However, the never say never reality also applies here because we are all human.

I am a white, southern, conservative, just to the right of Rush Limbaugh, Christian who believes it is my civic duty as a citizen to be an informed participant in government by not neglecting my voting privilege. I am probably one of the few who can say they have voted for both Bill Clinton and Jeb Bush for Governor. I did learn after that Clinton vote and did not make that mistake again. He attended the same church we did in Little Rock and so I was giving him the benefit of the doubt before my eyes were opened to his true character. In my defense, I was much younger then and did not do my research before that vote – lesson learned.

It is not much of a stretch for someone such as myself to embrace the message of Dr. Ben Carson. He reminds me of the first President I was eligible to and did vote for, Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan always believed in the strength and ingenuity of the American people as does Dr. Carson. The success of his presidency was due, in large part, to the American people being involved by calling and writing their representatives to express their opinion and desires. This is how many of his initiatives were moved through Congress, bypassing the filter of the mainstream media. From what I have seen and read from Dr. Carson, he plans to do the same thing when he is elected President.

Mobiles the American People

Dr. Carson recently went to Harlem and spoke truth to those there as few have ever done but the most significant thing he said and I paraphrase here is

Have you heard that from any elected official or candidate lately? Refreshing, isn’t it.

Kanye, Ben & Me

Dr. Ben Carson has said repeatedly he plans to bring the American people together, not divide them as most politicians choose to do. Since he is not a career politician I believe he has a good chance to pull this off. I am writing today to show proof of concept for this goal. He has already done it at least once or you would not be reading this post. If his fans are curious enough to take a closer look, unfiltered by “news” media, at Dr. Ben Carson that could be a game changer in the upcoming election. I believe that closer look will result in many more who will admire Ben Carson and will choose to support him as I do.

All I am advocating here is for YOU to be an informed voter, learn about the candidates and vote for the one who best matches your beliefs and values. Don’t rely on news media to tell you who they want you to vote for. Do keep in mind there is no perfect candidate, even Dr. Ben Carson. Don’t let your quest for the mythical perfect candidate deter you from determining who the best candidate is and supporting that choice.

Specifically, I am advocating YOU take a close look at Dr. Ben Carson. You can get any of the books or the movie mentioned above or just Like his Facebook page as over 4 million already have. He normally answers questions sent in by anyone who has one to ask. YOU could even write and ask him your own questions. I look forward to this post every night myself and continue to learn more with each one. I don’t know of any other candidate doing this.

So, as I think I have made clear here I am not a Kanye West fan and expect he would not be a fan of mine if he even knew who I was. We are very different. We do have one thing in common though, a respect and admiration for Dr. Ben Carson. I gladly welcome Kanye to the team called We The People.

The People

The fact Dr. Carson has brought two such diverse individuals as me and Kanye West together on the same team gives me hope for the future of our great country. Just imagine what could happen if this scenario is repeated over and over again between now and November 8, 2016. We will be waking up to a new day in America with a positive, optimistic future ahead.

God Bless America!

Until next time…

Independents Do Not Decide Elections

3002776434_643d076694_nI am tired of hearing the supposed election experts and pundits (insert name of your choice here) say the election (insert election here) is going to be decided by independents.

That is just not true.

The election will be determined by two groups of eligible voters, the Robot voters and the Single-Social-Issue non-voters. It is really very simple.

Robot Voters

Most people think of robots as some technological creation that somewhat exist now but will be more prevalent at some point in the not too distant future. That is one definition.

However, robots have existed for years. They show up every two years at the polling places on Election Day and pull that lever for the party their parents and grandparents voted for, for no other reason than, “they have always done it that way.” They do not educate themselves on the issues, how the candidates they are voting to elect or re-elect have voted or not voted, or the character of the candidates. All those facts and characteristics are irrelevant as there is no decision-making process taking place at all.

Black voters do make up a large portion of this group of robot voters but it includes members of all races and all political parties. Since Blacks do comprise the largest block of this group, if they maintain their status quo of the past 60 years and vote for the Democrats as they have done consistently there is a good chance that many Democrats will be re-elected, deservedly so or not. This vote has been consistent and reliable for the Democrats, and even take for granted, even though when you look at what they have received for this unwavering support there is very little to be found. This support without any accountability continues to astonish me.

Both major political parties come around every couple of years and make promises that sound good and tell their constituents how much they care about them and are working tirelessly for them and need to be re-elected in order to continue this important work. However if you look for any evidence that indicates this work has accomplished anything for the voters it is proposed to help, very little can be found.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. This is what these voters have done over and over. They are not holding those they are electing accountable for results. If it wasn’t so predictable and preventable it would be sad. Maybe they are getting the results they want but if so, their expectations are really low.

Single-Social-Issue (SSI) Non-Voters

The other group that will determine the outcome of this upcoming election as they have in past elections are those who select a candidate based on their stance, support of or opposition to a single social issues alone. This group is not mutually exclusive from the Robot voters. Christians are the largest block of this group. The participation rate of Christians in recent elections is embarrassing and disgraceful to this Christian.

They will show up to support Chick-fil-A or Hobby Lobby but then choose to stay home on Election Day. This makes just about as much sense as the Robot voters vote…none at all.

One significant difference in this group and the robot voters is the robot voters do consistently show up at the polls and cast their votes. This SSI group stays home and forfeits their voting privilege because a candidate or party does not meet “all” of their requirements. This excuse for not voting is just as astonishing as the voting record of the robot voters to me.

In the last two presidential elections there have been millions, primarily from this group, who have just stayed home and not voted because they did not like either of the candidates. These people are looking for the perfect candidate, which does not exist and never will. When not having the option of voting for this non-existent candidate they have chosen to just stay home and not participate as some type of protest. This non-action and abdication of their privilege to vote is the same as a vote for a candidate or party they would not have likely voted for. This is astonishing to me as well.

Don’t be a Robot or SSI citizen

If any of this applies to you,

I would rather you not vote at all if you are not going to cast an informed vote. I did write about that previously at Maybe you shouldn’t vote.

Inform yourself about the candidates and the issues and get to the polls on election day and exercise your privilege to vote and select those who will be making decisions that will affect you, your children and even grandchildren. There are many ways to get informed. I will mention a couple here but this is by no means an exhaustive list. As long as you are making the effort to learn and cast an informed vote that is all I am asking.

It is not my place to tell you how to vote. I would be happy to discuss any of the candidates or issues with you personally but that is not my purpose here. I just want people who are eligible to vote to exercise that privilege and cast an informed vote. If that were the case we would have much better representatives making better decisions to make this a better city, county, state and country.

As Ursula from The Little Mermaid said, “Life’s full of tough choices, isn’t it?” Selecting a candidate when none meet all of your criteria or expectations can be one of those tough choices; but it is one we all should be making. Doing the research to learn about who and what you will be voting on will take a little time but it is time we should all be taking. Only then can we expect those we elect to make tough wise choices when they are faced with them in their term serving us.

Your One Vote Does Count!

Dr. Ben Carson has written a short book called One Vote that reminds us or informs us why our One Vote does count and why we should not take this privilege for granted, make ourselves informed voters and vote. You can get your own copy on One Vote free at Make Your Voice Heard. Get it and read it before you vote next week. You will be reminded why you should vote and should be an informed voter. You might just be inspired to vote if you were thinking about sitting this one out too.

Even if you choose not to download the free book you can go to OneVoteBook.com and take advantage of all the resources available there to inform yourself about the process, issues, and candidates.

This is America – Act Like Americans!

If you are an American citizen you have the privilege of living in the greatest country on the face of the earth. We have been blessed and continue to be blessed by God. You have a responsibility to be part of the informed electorate and take part in the democratic process of electing those who will “serve” for the next 2, 4 or 6 years.

Whether you take your responsibility seriously and fulfill it is your choice. Choose wisely. Make a choice you can live with.

Independents do not decide elections. You do!

God Bless America!

Until next time…
