I have had several folks ask me both in person and on social media if a vote for the candidate I support for President would be a wasted vote as many in the media and so-called “expert” pundits would like folks to believe. Have you ever noticed many of these pundits are from failed campaigns, experienced in losing? Some might have had success once but their predictions since that one time have been wrong much more often than right.
The most common type of experience mentioned is political experience. “Experienced” politicians have brought us to where we are now in America. This statement is true however you assess the current state of our country. I think Ronald Reagan had it right in this quote,
“Professional politicians like to talk about experience in government. Nuts!
What kind of experience are you looking for in our next President?
So…what kind of experience are you looking for in our next President? That is a relevant question and one I cannot answer for you. All I can do is describe the kind of experience I think is important for the next President to bring into office. If this perspective helps you either make or confirm your own decision, this will have been a worthwhile use of time for me.
Experience I would like our next President to bring into office
Experience assessing situations as they arise.
Experience in being a continuous learner.
Experience in analyzing the situation to determine best and worst case solution scenarios.
Experience in asking for wisdom from God to make the best decision.
Experience in actually making a critical decision.
Experience leading the team executing the plan by setting expectations for and providing the resources and authority to complete it.
This makes experience in facing and resolving many types of situations critical to their success while in office. Being able to solve problems as they arise and not just kick them down the road for the next administration (political experience) is a critical skill needed for any successful president.
Dr. Ben Carson’s experience is unique among presidential candidates and meets all of the criteria mentioned above and will lend itself well to making the decisions that will need to be made as President of the United States of America to move our country forward and keep America safe.
Experience tested and honed in thousands of life and death situations
As a world renowned brain surgeon, Dr. Carson has performed thousands of surgeries. Each of these cases has been unique to that individual and family. Life and death risks and decisions are a regular part of brain surgery.
Each case is unique with patient history, options available, and outcomes expected.
Continuous medical education is required to determine the best methods of treatment or surgery available.
Input from trusted peers and experts is encouraged and considered.
Analysis to determine the best case / worst case scenarios and expected outcomes of performing or not performing the surgery.
Explaining these options and possible outcomes to the patient and family in terms they can understand and trust. Character, integrity and competence are essential in building this trust. These parents are trusting Dr. Carson and his Gifted Hands with the life of their child.
Recommending the best course of action and setting expectations for possible outcomes.
Seeking guidance from God through prayer for wisdom to make the best decision to move forward with the surgery or not.
Making the decision in a timely manner as time is of the essence. The patient’s life often depends on it.
Only then, is the actual surgery performed and this entire process is potentially repeated again during the surgery as the situation warrants.
Reporting the results of the surgery to the family of the patient along with follow-up expectations and course of action.
This process has been repeated thousands of times. That is valuable experience.
America is the patient
This type of experience will be invaluable as the leader of the country in assessing and addressing any issues that arise.
Each situation will be different with historical data, options available, input from advisers and new tactics and solutions considered and discussed in evaluating each case.
Continuous education is required to be cognizant of new tactics or solutions that might be available and applicable in this situation.
Analyzing this information to determine the best case and worst case scenarios and possible outcomes of any actions being considered.
Asking God through his own prayers and America through their prayers for wisdom to make the best decision to move forward with the prescribed course of action.
Making the decision in a timely manner as time is of the essence. America’s future depends on it.
Leading the team executing the plan by setting expectations and providing the necessary resources to execute the plan.
Reporting the results of the actions taken to the American people along with follow-up expectations and course of action.
I have a dream!
My dream is each eligible voter would realize the importance of the decision facing America in 2016 – voting for the next president – and would follow a similar process in evaluating the candidates and making their own decision. If my dream came true I am confident many of you will come to the same conclusion I have, the experience Dr. Ben Carson would bring to the Presidency – making thousands of critical life and death decisions over his career – is unique among all candidates and would be invaluable in keeping America safe and moving forward.
Dr. Ben Carson Gifted Hands Documentary
Take a look at this video – Dr. Ben Carson Gifted Hands Documentary – and see what you think in light of Dr. Ben Carson’s experience and his candidacy for President and make your own decision. After the bombast, glitter, noise, exaggerated claims and mudslinging of the other candidates has faded, a wise, calm, experienced decision-maker is the type of person I would want leading our country. Dr. Ben Carson is that type of person.
What kind of experience are you looking for?
Every voter will make their own decision and I would never presume to tell anyone who they should vote for. The person the American people select as President is elected to serve and to lead and make critical decisions. My hope is you will make critical decision making experience one of your criteria. Do your own research and don’t depend on the “news” media to make your decision for you. They have their own agenda.
Experience I am not looking for…
“I will confess I do not have experience in certain things like empowering special interest groups and growing the government and wasting taxpayer money and disarming our military and deserting our allies and lying to the people and submitting to the PC police.”Dr. Ben Carson
I have made my assessment and Ben Carson is my choice.
Voting is a privilege I do not take for granted and a solemn responsibility I do take seriously. It’s not brain surgery. I am no more a brain surgeon than Jethro from The Beverly Hillbillies. I hope all other non-brain surgeons out there, like me, take your responsibility seriously too.
Until next time…

You are about to read two words I never thought would ever appear in anything I ever wrote or signed my name to – Kanye West. I am not a Kanye West fan and don’t expect I ever will be. I don’t like the rap genre or the explicit language that requires the EXPLICIT Warning label. I will not buy anything with that warning. See Adult Language if you want to see my perspective on that.
There is nothing I know about Kanye West as of this writing that would make me a fan or buy anything he produces or creates or vote for him for President in 2020 if he really does run. If Kanye West is named as part of it, I normally change the channel. That has not changed. I have lived long enough to never say never but, so far, nothing resonates with me.
That recently changed (sort of)
Recently, I saw a news teaser about who Kanye West was “supporting” for President in 2016. I didn’t really care (see above if confused) but decided to let the show run because I did have a hunch of who it might be. As it turns out I don’t believe Kanye has endorsed Dr. Ben Carson for President but he has had some good things to say about him as in the comment below,
“As soon as I heard [Ben] Carson speak, I tried for three weeks to get on the phone with him. I was like this is the most brilliant guy,” Kanye said in his interview with Vanity Fair. You can read more about this here
I have been an admirer of Dr. Ben Carson ever since I saw his Prayer Breakfast Speech from February 7, 2013. He spoke truth to power in a way not often seen in the politically correct world we live in today. That took courage and conviction. If you have not seen that speech it is worth your time to go to the link below and watch it. No EXPLICIT warning is necessary but a Common Sense warning might be appropriate. Watch it with your entire family.
My research has only increased my admiration of Dr. Carson. I knew if he did decide to run for office I would support him. I just wasn’t sure if I would get that opportunity. I knew it was a long shot but held out hope he would decide to run for office. If you have been paying attention at all you are aware he did make that decision and is doing very well. What he has done and said so far does resonate with me and I don’t expect that to change. However, the never say never reality also applies here because we are all human.
I am a white, southern, conservative, just to the right of Rush Limbaugh, Christian who believes it is my civic duty as a citizen to be an informed participant in government by not neglecting my voting privilege. I am probably one of the few who can say they have voted for both Bill Clinton and Jeb Bush for Governor. I did learn after that Clinton vote and did not make that mistake again. He attended the same church we did in Little Rock and so I was giving him the benefit of the doubt before my eyes were opened to his true character. In my defense, I was much younger then and did not do my research before that vote – lesson learned.
It is not much of a stretch for someone such as myself to embrace the message of Dr. Ben Carson. He reminds me of the first President I was eligible to and did vote for, Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan always believed in the strength and ingenuity of the American people as does Dr. Carson. The success of his presidency was due, in large part, to the American people being involved by calling and writing their representatives to express their opinion and desires. This is how many of his initiatives were moved through Congress, bypassing the filter of the mainstream media. From what I have seen and read from Dr. Carson, he plans to do the same thing when he is elected President.
Dr. Carson recently went to Harlem and spoke truth to those there as few have ever done but the most significant thing he said and I paraphrase here is
Have you heard that from any elected official or candidate lately? Refreshing, isn’t it.
Kanye, Ben & Me
Dr. Ben Carson has said repeatedly he plans to bring the American people together, not divide them as most politicians choose to do. Since he is not a career politician I believe he has a good chance to pull this off. I am writing today to show proof of concept for this goal. He has already done it at least once or you would not be reading this post. If his fans are curious enough to take a closer look, unfiltered by “news” media, at Dr. Ben Carson that could be a game changer in the upcoming election. I believe that closer look will result in many more who will admire Ben Carson and will choose to support him as I do.
All I am advocating here is for YOU to be an informed voter, learn about the candidates and vote for the one who best matches your beliefs and values. Don’t rely on news media to tell you who they want you to vote for. Do keep in mind there is no perfect candidate, even Dr. Ben Carson. Don’t let your quest for the mythical perfect candidate deter you from determining who the best candidate is and supporting that choice.
Specifically, I am advocating YOU take a close look at Dr. Ben Carson. You can get any of the books or the movie mentioned above or just Like his Facebook page as over 4 million already have. He normally answers questions sent in by anyone who has one to ask. YOU could even write and ask him your own questions. I look forward to this post every night myself and continue to learn more with each one. I don’t know of any other candidate doing this.
So, as I think I have made clear here I am not a Kanye West fan and expect he would not be a fan of mine if he even knew who I was. We are very different. We do have one thing in common though, a respect and admiration for Dr. Ben Carson. I gladly welcome Kanye to the team called We The People.
The fact Dr. Carson has brought two such diverse individuals as me and Kanye West together on the same team gives me hope for the future of our great country. Just imagine what could happen if this scenario is repeated over and over again between now and November 8, 2016. We will be waking up to a new day in America with a positive, optimistic future ahead.
God Bless America!
Until next time…

As noted in the school board meeting in January, Dr. Wright has just completed one year as the Superintendent of Enterprise City Schools as have several others. I thought it would be worthwhile to review this past year and highlight what I consider to be some of the major accomplishments and changes that have occurred. Please let me know if you think it is worthwhile too. Continue reading An Eventful Year
I was looking at some of my previous posts on the topic of Enterprise and the Trust and Assumptions post from last September, nine months ago, stood out to me and I thought it would be worthwhile to revisit and see if any progress has been made in the current political climate in The City of Progress.
A lot has happened since last September. We have a new Superintendent of Schools and President of the School Board just beginning a new term next month. We also have a new city council president. They all have an opportunity to act on many of the suggestions mentioned in Trust and Assumptions. I am not presumptuous enough to believe they have to get their ideas here. They are just common sense suggestions. Continue reading Climate Change? Not so much
I love getting feedback from the words I post here on this blog. This has been a learning experience for me as expected and as my tagline says, “There is always more to be learned.”
I am writing today to say thank you for all those who have read any of my musings here and commented whether that be online here, on Facebook, or in person. They do mean a lot to me and are appreciated. As is mentioned in my About information, I hope something might resonate with you and be worth thinking about, commenting on, agreeing with, disagreeing with, or sharing, or all of the above. That certainly has been the case for many of the posts I have made here and, did I say I appreciate that? Well I do.
Bad Information – Misconceptions
I received what I believe is my first phone call directly related to a post last Wednesday after my Two Questions post which was also published as a letter to the editor in the Southeast Sun as Two questions to ask of the superintendent candidates. I am not sure if the caller read the post here or there but, he did not specify. In any case, it did generate a phone call. I enjoy all kinds of feedback because that is the only way I will learn if what I write is being interpreted as I intended when I wrote it. This feedback was certainly interesting.
