Football Mistakes

Well, it is Super Bowl Sunday and before and even during the game there will be mistakes made. Mistakes are part of the game. Some will say the team that makes the fewest mistakes will win and that is often true. However, I think it is more often true the winner is the team that learns from its mistakes.

These are professional athletes at the peak of their field (pun intended). Even though they sometimes make what we call super-human plays, they ARE still human and DO make mistakes, often caused by their opponent’s flawless execution.

Often in a game of this magnitude, the mistake, as well as the super-human, once-in-a-lifetime plays, are both overemphasized and replayed repeatedly by the fans and media.

I know the last play of the College Football Playoff Championship game this year has been replayed and shared quite often. However, we often forget all the “normal” plays it takes to get to a game-winning play in overtime. It took all those normal, consistent efforts by both teams to get them to overtime.

But the fact remains, mistakes are made, and the team that learns from their mistakes and makes the necessary adjustments to avoid repeating them often come out on top when the clock hits 00:00. If you are watching the game today I hope it is all you want it to be and your team, if you have one, wins.

Life Mistakes

What about you? Have you ever made a mistake? That is rhetorical because I know the answer. Unless you have never done anything, you have made a mistake. But did you learn from it and do what was necessary to not repeat that same mistake again?

When we make a mistake that is often when we learn the most because we don’t want to repeat it or ever let the mistake become our new normal. This is true whether the mistake happens in our personal life as a parent, son, daughter, spouse or friend or in our work life as an employee, leader or entrepreneur.

What if you could learn from someone else’s mistakes without having to commit the mistake yourself? That is often more challenging because we pay less attention when it is not us making the mistake.

If that method interests you I have just what you are looking for. Skip Prichard has collected mistakes from his life and numerous interviews he has conducted with those who have crossed his path so far. This includes drug addicts and homeless as well as successful athletes, celebrities and CEO’s. He has culled what he has learned down to a list of 9 mistakes we would do well to avoid to give ourselves the best chance for a successful future. Chip has written them down for us to learn from while we take a journey or two in The Book of Mistakes: 9 Secrets To Creating A Successful Future, which will be available on February 6, 2018.

The Book of Mistakes

This is like two books in one with two separate but related stories that come together in the end. By the time you get to the end of these journeys, you will have been exposed to the 9 mistakes and 3 laws. These are life lessons you will be able to apply in your own life no matter your profession.

It is written in the fable/parable, storytelling style of Andy Andrews The Traveler’s Gift and Bob Burg in The Go-Giver. If you have read either of these books you know what I am talking about. If not, I recommend you add them to your reading list too. Good storytelling always helps you remember the principles the characters are learning. If you can remember the story, you can remember the lesson.

You will travel with David, who is not happy in his current job, as he learns the 9 mistakes from different people he meets who reveal the nine mistakes and lessons he can learn from each. He has a new perspective by the end of his journey.

You will also travel with Aria as she fights to preserve the book of mistakes given to her by her uncle. Along her journey, she learns three laws of life that help her understand her purpose. It is

If you choose to embark on this journey with David and Aria there is a good chance it will transform your way of thinking and your life as it did theirs. As the old man said to David,

Readiness is when your desire is stronger than your distraction. Are you ready for this journey?

I don’t want to share the mistakes and laws here because part of the fun of the journey is learning them as part of the journey in the book. However, if I did have to select a favorite, it would be number 7 which is blending in instead of standing out.

I like to outperform expectations and since my expectations for myself are normally higher than anyone else when I meet mine I have usually exceeded others’.
